Interactive digital work for an EV-charging company
An interactive services map — delivered as both a website component and an offline tablet app for trade shows — plus a custom-built product search for the client's catalogue.
Both builds are dependency-free by design — a vanilla-JS map with no framework, and a search built by hand rather than a paid service. Less to break, less to pay for, and fast.
This client designs and delivers EV-charging and energy infrastructure — grid connections for renewables, battery storage, and charging for fleets, forecourts, public sites and marine. They needed two things: an engaging way to present that breadth of services, and a faster way for customers to find products in their catalogue.
We built an interactive services map as a single vanilla-JavaScript runtime, delivered both as an editable website component and as an installable offline tablet app for trade shows — kept in sync with the CMS automatically. Alongside it, we replaced a sluggish default store search with a hand-built product search tuned to their catalogue, without bolting on a paid search service.
The map looks fantastic on our stand and just works, even when the venue WiFi doesn't — and our team keeps it up to date themselves.
A multi-stage approach.
Discovery
We mapped the client's services and how they'd be shown — on the website, and in person on tablets at trade shows where connectivity is unreliable — and chose a single, dependency-free runtime we could ship two ways.
Interactive map
We built an editable map of hotspot zones (polygon, marker, copy and call-to-action), authored in the CMS with a point-and-click polygon picker, that renders responsively from phone to 4K kiosk.
Offline tablet app
We packaged the same map as an installable app with a service worker caching the app shell and imagery, so it keeps working with no connectivity — and syncs fresh content from the CMS the moment it's back online.
Custom product search
Separately, we replaced the store's default search with a hand-built query tuned to the catalogue — dropping a paid dependency and giving shoppers fast, relevant results.
What changed.
One codebase, two homes
A single map runtime ships as both an embeddable website component and an installable tablet app, so there's no duplicate code to keep in step.
It works when the WiFi doesn't
An offline-first tablet app caches everything it needs, so the map keeps running on a trade-show stand even with no connection.
Editors stay in control
Hotspots, copy and calls-to-action are edited in the CMS, and the tablets pick up changes automatically the next time they're online — no app-store release required.
Search without the subscription
We built the catalogue search by hand rather than bolting on a paid engine — fast, relevant, and one less dependency to pay for.

If you need a slick web experience that also has to work offline — on a stand, in the field, on a tablet — we'll build it to degrade gracefully.
