Automating a monthly SEO report into a live spreadsheet

Producing a client's monthly SEO report by hand — copying rankings out of a rank tracker into a formatted spreadsheet — is exactly the kind of job worth automating. We built a small tool that pulls the rank-tracking data, computes month-on-month movements in position and search volume, and writes it straight into the client's spreadsheet.

It caches the data locally so it isn't hammering the rank-tracker's API, self-paces to stay inside rate limits, and keeps a rolling window of history — backfilling once, then refreshing the current month each run. The monthly report now builds itself.
